Important
Things to Remember at Orchard House!
- No smoking, incense, loud music, or pets.
Visitors may not bring their own pets unless it is a seeing eye dog.
- The building is very sturdy, but still needs to have its age respected. We
are, after all, living in a historic building. So, please don't bounce down
the stairs or slam doors. It may damage the stairs, crack glass in the door,
or crack plaster on the walls. Besides, it disturbs other residents.
- Please be sure the dishwasher is full before running it.
- Garbage is collected by the city twice a week: once on Tuesday morning
(usually before 4:30 a.m. or thereabouts), and once on Friday morning (same
approximate time). You can leave your garbage, wrapped in a black plastic
trash bag, on the street in front of the house after 7 p.m. the previous
night. Please try to avoid blocking the doors of any cars parked nearby.
- Garbage temporarily stored in the apartment until collection must be kept
covered in a container with a tight lid.
- Recycling is collected by the city every Friday morning, usually before
dawn. You can leave it out after 7 p.m. the previous night. Please be
diligent about separating paper
and cardboard from metal and plastics, otherwise the recycling won't be
picked up, and you will be subject to a fine if the recycling is still on
the sidewalk after the pickup. Please follow the bundling
requirements for recycling as laid out at http://www.jciaonline.org/wastes.php
- Please make sure your storm windows are closed during storms. If you
aren't home and your storm windows are open, the landlord reserves the right
to enter your apartment to close them. Water damage resulting from leaving
windows open will be the responsibility of the tenants.
- Please make sure the front door is closed when you leave. It is one way we
can protect our home from unwanted strangers. It also keeps heating and
cooling costs lower.
- Let the landlord know about any problems, even just suspected ones, right
away. When maintenance is scheduled, please be sure your security alarm is
disabled.
- If you're expecting a package to be delivered, please let the landlord
know in advance if you won't be home to receive it.
- If you have a party, please respect others' right to peace by turning the
noise down by 11 p.m.
- Sometimes third and lower classes of mail are left in the
vestibule when there is too much for the mailboxes. Be considerate and make
sure you are taking only your own mail, and not someone else's by mistake.
- In sum, we should all follow the Golden Rule: Do Unto Others as We Would
Have Them Do Unto Us…. Enjoy life at Orchard House, and live in peace with
your neighbors and friends….
